James Edward Simms embarked upon life’s journey on December 16, 1958, in the city of Kingsville, Texas to Julian Simms, Jr. and Cora Lee Simms. Known to many as “Baby Brother” he was called home on February 17, 2017.
James attended Foy H. Moody High School in Corpus Christi, Texas where he was a stellar football player. He graduated from Moody in 1977. He was ambitious and went on to attend Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. He was united in marriage on July 27, 1985, to Pamela Shandy Simms to this union two children were born, Justin L. and Peyton S. Simms.
As an expert sports enthusiasts with an infectious smile, he enjoyed participating in football, softball, fishing, hunting and spending time with family and friends. He was the family Historian and if you were family he certainly knew you. He had an incredible ability to build relationships and rapport with everyone he befriended. James was self-employed in the flooring industry. He learned this trade from his father and grandfather who founded the Simms Carpet Company. He will always be remembered for his great barbecue and his famous buttermilk pies.
He was preceded in death by his father, Julian Simms, Jr., mother, Cora Griffin, step-mother, Selia Simms and step-father Napoleon Griffin.
He leaves to celebrate his life; his wife Pamela and children Justin and Peyton Simms, his siblings, Arlene Stewart (Terry) of Hutto, Texas, Rena Simms Muse (Terron) of Plugerville, Texas, Alvin Griffin of Anchorage, Alaska, Phillip Smith of Corpus Christi, Ronald Simms of Corpus Christi, Benjamin Simms (Barbara) of Corpus Christi, Texas, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, February 24, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Corpus Christi Funeral Home with a wake to be held at 7:00 pm.
A Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Baptist Church. Officiating Pastor Dr. Derrick E. Reaves, Senior Pastor of St. John Baptist Church. Eulogist James R. Miller.
Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
