Gerardo “Jerry” Garcia, age 56, was called by our Lord and Savior on February 17, 2017 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Jerry was born on May 5, 1960 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Margarita Garcia. He was a loving, generous and kind individual who enjoyed helping others. Jerry loved his children and all his family dearly and took great pride in his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Jerry also adored his grandchildren who lovingly called him “Popo”.
He was a sports fanatic and enjoyed the Houston Astros Baseball team. The local Southside Baseball organization had a special place in his heart where he coached, encouraged and sponsored many children who couldn’t afford to play. He also spent time mentoring the youth, helping them grow into young men and great athletes. Jerry loved Tejano music and enjoyed listening to music by Roberto Pulido. He loved unconditionally and will be missed dearly by all his family.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Manuela and Martin Garcia; Mother, Margarita Garcia and Sister, Rosalinda Garcia.
Jerry is survived by his three children, Henry Gutierrez, Harrison Gutierrez (Kaela), Jenifer Torres (Jesus); five grandchildren; six brothers and sisters, Martin Huerta (Mary Rose), Manuela Martinez, Guadalupe Garcia (Lydia), Esther Rivera (Eddie), Monico Garcia (Edna), Johnny Garcia (Patsy); one aunt, Janie Estrada, along with nineteen nieces and nephews .
Jerry’s favorite color was purple. In honor of Jerry we are asking for people to wear his favorite color to the services.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Corpus Christi Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 22, 2017.
Interment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park
