Virginia M. Mendez

Virginia M. Mendez, age 86, passed away on March 23, 2021. Also known as Vicka, she was born on April 14, 1934, to Pedro and Maria Martinez.
Vicka’s hobbies included sewing, gardening, card games, puzzles, casinos and traveling. Most of all, Vicka enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, and mother.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Pedro and Maria Martinez, her brothers, Jesus Martinez, Oscar Martinez, and Joe D. Martinez, her son, Oscar F. Mendez, her daughter, Gloria M. Forshey, and her son-in-law, Gerardo Saldaña.
Vicka is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, Frank M. Mendez, their children, Frank Mendez, Jr. (Mary Lou), Esther Saldaña, Robert Mendez (Angie), Amelia Mendez-Arzuaga, Maria Mendez-Igou (Harland). 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, who lovingly referred to her as Mean Vicka. Additional survivors include her siblings, Pete Martinez, Janie Lopez and Marta Gloria.
The family would like to recognize Maria Sosa for providing excellent care for more than two years as her personal provider. We also appreciate the special care and attention from the staff at Kindred Hospice, especially Lauren and Andrea.
Although Vicka was ill for many years, she never lost her sense of humor or the ability to make those around her feel loved.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at Corpus Christi Funeral Home, with a recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 29, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
