Velma M. Davis

June 20, 1934 ~ December 28, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years Old
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the Faith. II Timothy 4:7

Velma Marie Moore Davis was born June 20, 1934 in Homer, Louisiana (Claiborne Parish) to Davis Moore Sr. and Judie Gibson Moore.  She was the 4th born (only girl) of five children.  She was proceeded in death her parents and four brothers: Marvin J., Davis, Jr. Codis, and Samuel, as well as two sister-in-laws, Avilon Moore, wife of Marvin and Scentral Moore, wife of Codis.

Velma was united in marriage to Robert B. Davis on September 20, 1957. A nice story she would tell is Robert asked her “Do you know how to cook a lemon pie?”  After she baked the pie he asked for her hand in marriage, I guess she passed the test.  To this union one child was born; Jacqueline Nanette Davis-Sims. She was blessed with one granddaughter and one great-grandson.

Velma graduated from Homer High School in Homer, Louisiana in 1952. She relocated to Corpus Christi in 1957 the year she met Robert.  Velma was employed in food services by Corpus Christi ISD for approximately 10 years. A short time after her employment with CCISD, she was hired at the Corpus Christi State School in Corpus Christi, Texas. She retired as a Food Services Supervisor after 27 years of service with the State of Texas. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, baking (was her specialities) and coordinating for special church events. In the latter part of her life she became interested in arts and crafts, such as making blankets for friends and family. She also enjoyed making wreaths and shared her crafts with family members, friends and staff/residents at Eden Hill (Assisted Living- The Heritage) Communities in New Braunfels, Texas. She touched the lives of many throughout her years.  She held a special place in her heart for her daughter, granddaughter, but in her latter years it was her great-grandson who sparked a special light in her eyes!

Velma united with Jehovah Witness Faith in1987 and served until her death.

On Thursday December 28, 2017, God called Velma home to her heavenly reward.

She leaves to cherish her memory; her daughter, Jacqueline Davis-Sims and Son-in Law Virgest “Andy” Sims, of New Braunfels, Texas. One Granddaughter, Nehtra M. Davis and one-great-grandson Brandon “LJ" Nunn, Jr. both of Kyle, Texas, two Sister-in-laws Deseree Moore and Christine Moore Harris both of Minden, Louisiana, one foster brother-Willie Earl Shelton of Dallas, Texas, and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Corpus Christi Funeral Home with a Funeral Service to be held at 10:00 a.m.

Interment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
