Vanassa Silmon

Vanassa Pickens Silmon was born September 4, 1959 to Willie Pearl and the late Curtis Lee Pickens and departed this life September 30, 2020. Vanessa started attending church as an infant with her grandmother the late Leona Taylor and accepted Christ very early in life. Vanessa was a member of Saint John Baptist Church. She was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was a graduate from Roy Miller High School in 1978 and was always a “proud buc”. Vanassa graduated from Wiley College in Marshall Texas receiving her Bachelor’s degree of Science in Education. Vanassa taught for over 20 years in public and parochial schools. Vanassa was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother. In addition to her father and grandmother.
Vanessa is preceded in death by grandparents Leon and Ida Mae Scott and step-father Roland Gidrey.
She leaves to cherish her memories her mother, Willie Pearl Gidrey and her three children, Kenysha Bernard (Joe), Shoneika Denise Silmon (R.J.), Curtis Lee Pickens all of Corpus Christi, Texas. Her beloved grandchildren, Jonae, Leona, Jermaine, Jalen, Alaysia, Raylan, Gianna, Nasir. She is also survived by her sisters, Tyna Davis, Rhonda Gidrey, brother, Mose Gidrey(Bubba) all of Corpus Christi Texas and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Corpus Christi Funeral Home with a funeral service to be held at 2:00 P.M.
