Shirley Ann Stone, age 83 passed away on December 30, 2021. Shirley was born on November 24, 1938 to Albert Paige and Ethel Bell Hodge.
She was the first African American to graduate from Uvalde High School in 1958.
She attended nursing school and was employed by Woolco/Woolworth until her retirement.
Shirley enjoyed gardening and arts/crafts. She was an active member with Rising Star Baptist Church.
She will always be remembered for her Christian faith, prayer, love and devotion for family and friends.
Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt.
Shirley was married to the late Bennie Stone for 54 years. She is preceded in death by her son, Rafael Stone. Her sisters, Mary Jackson and Audrey Harris, her brother Dan Harris.
Shirley is survived by three sons, Bennie (Ruth) Stone Jr., Larry (Maricela) Stone, Troy (Mary Ann) Stone and Linda Stewart whom she considered a daughter. Grandchildren, Jessica, Austin, Zachary, Devin Stone, Antonie Gonzalez and three Great Grandchildren, Brother, Roy Harris of Dallas, Texas, Sister, Geraldean McGruder of Grand Prairie, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will start 10:00 AM, Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at Corpus Christi Funeral Home with a funeral service to be held at 11:00 AM that same day. Interment will follow at Coastal Bend Veteran’s Cemetery at 1:00 PM.
Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers are Zachary Stone, Austin Stone, Devin Stone, James McGruder, John Fletcher and George Hodge.
