Obituary
Ruben R. Perez, age 60, passed away on June 12, 2020. Ruben was born on February 14, 1960 to Marcelo V. and Lillie R. Perez. He graduated from King High School in Corpus Christi and the University of Texas in Austin. Ruben’s field of study was TV/Film. He always had a fascination for film and TV. His desire was to return to Los Angeles to pursue work in the film industry.
Ruben was a hard worker. He enjoyed working in the hotel industry and worked for Crowne Plaza, Red Lion, and Marquis Hotels, to name a few. He even worked for Southwestern Bell as an operator.
Ruben will always be remembered for his gentle spirit, huge heart, and love of music, especially the legends, Michael Jackson and Prince.
Ruben was a loving son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was especially proud of his nephews and nieces. Ruben delighted hearing when they excelled in a sport, made the National Honor Society (like him), or made the cheer team, to name a few things!
Despite the health and physical challenges he faced as he grew older, Ruben never lost his love for the Lord. He knew maintaining a personal relationship with Christ was key in his Christian walk. His favorite saying was, “This Too, Shall Pass”!
Ruben is preceded in death by parents, Marcelo V. Perez and Lillie R. Perez and brother, Marcelo R. Perez.
Ruben is survived by his sisters, Gloria (Mario) P. Lopez, Christine Perez, Maria “Maggie” (Roger) Garza, brother, Eric Perez, nephews Mark S. (Belinda) Perez, Erik J. (Crystal) Perez, and Jeremiah “Jeremy” Lopez, nieces, Lauren (JR) Barrientos, Margo Lopez, and Lily Garza, along with his first grandnephew, Otilio G. “Trey” Barrientos, III. Also surviving are numerous cousins and his best and loyal friend, Bernice Leth.
A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at Corpus Christi Funeral Home.
Due to COVID limitations, the service will be limited 65 people. A livestream of the service will be available for friends and family to view from their home. Masks are required.
