Obituary

Ruben G. Arredondo, age 80, went to heaven on March 21, 2023. He was born on December 29, 1942 to Dominga and Jesus Arredondo. Daddy graduated from Roy Miller High School in 1961 and enlisted in the United States Marines Reserves in 1963.
Daddy was a carpenter by trade and went to Del Mar College Tech where he received his apprenticeship. He worked for Beck and Sons back in the day and retired as a carpenter from CCISD. Our daddy was a very hard worker and always made sure we did not go without.
Family was everything to our dad. Daddy enjoyed spending time with the family and we loved spending time with him. The holidays and Sunday lunches were some of the best times together. He especially loved going out to eat at Butter Churn in Aransas Pass where he tore it up. He always had a big smile on his face when he would return from the numerous trips to the buffet. Eating was something our family loved doing together. One year during a hurricane we ate all the emergency food before the hurricane made landfall….and it was great! But nothing compared to the smorgasbord we had at our Buccaneer Parade spot that our daddy saved for us every year. He would heckle the local politicians as they passed us by in their vehicles and we all would laugh. Daddy always thought he was whispering when in reality he spoke loud, this would also result in my mom shushing him and the rest of us laughing. Our daddy had a great sense of humor in which he passed on down to us.
Not many people can say that their dad was a real life super hero, but ours was. Dad wrestled professionally during the Texas Territory Days. He was known as “El Tejano” and wrestled for Joe Blanchard and Fritz Von Erich. He loved going to the local wrestling shows and hanging out with his sons and grandsons. Daddy never met a stranger. He had friends everywhere and would run into someone anywhere he went. He loved listening to Conjunto and Tejano music and would spend hours near the shed with his music in the backyard drinking a cold one. We think this was dad’s little getaway As a young man our dad played the drums in a band and thus his love of music. I think what he loved most was “cruising” down the bayfront with our mom and eating a burger by the bay. If they weren’t cruising they were feeding coins in the game rooms. We always worried that one day they would be somewhere that got raided and then we would have to bail them out. LOL. When they went to Vegas he told us it was the best time they ever had and if he could live there he would.
Dad is preceded in death by his parents Dominga and Jesus Arredondo. His sister Angelica and brothers Mauro and Jesus. He is survived by his wife, Lupe and his children Christina (Ray) Aranda, Rosie Cavazos, Johnny (Liza) Arredondo, Edward (Tiffany) Arredondo. His sister, Veronica (David) Trevino. His grandchildren, Valdemar Ruben (Katie) Cavazos, Analisa Rackley, Melanie Cavazos, Brianna Cavazos, Jeremiah Arredondo, and Jonathan Arredondo and great-granddaughter Stella Dove Rackley.
Visitation will held from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. on Monday, March 27, 2023 at Corpus Christi Funeral Home Chapel. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. A funeral service will be held at the chapel on Tuesday, March 28th at 10:00. Interment to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery at 11:30.

Daddy, we were blessed to have you for as long as we did in our lives. You were the sweetest, kindest, funniest, and most loving daddy anyone could ever have asked for. We will cherish your texts that you sent us each morning blessing us with a good day and letting us know that you and mom loved us. The morning you went to heaven you made sure we knew we were loved when you sent us your text before you left. We find peace and comfort in that text and will treasure it forever. We know that you are in a better place now where you can walk free of pain and your heart beats strong. We love you and will miss you so much! But we know you are always here with us and we feel your presence. Don’t worry about mommy. We got this. God bless you daddy, till we meet again.
