Colonel Rose M. Shefuo USAF/Ret died peacefully in her home January 18, 2022 at the age of 102. She is preceded in death by her three sisters and six brothers. Rose was the sixth of ten children born to Joseph and Teresa Scifo on November 22, 1919 in Bayonne New Jersey. She graduated Bayonne High School in 1937. Graduated Valedictorian Bayonne Nursing School as a RN 1941. She is a WWII, Korean, and Vietnam Veteran. She is part of the Military Women’s Memorial in Washington DC. Rose never married nor had any children, she lived alone. She dedicated her life to the Military and her family! On March 13, 1945, she joined the Army Air Core later moved over to the Air Force in 1947. Her career progressed from Nurse General Duty, to Director of Nurses, and to Command of Nurses! She traveled the world; her stories were so vivid and exciting. She made longtime friends wherever she went. When asked about her favorite places, “THEY ALL WERE” Once Rose retired from the Air Force, she moved to Padre Island in 1973 and has been a Texas resident ever since. She received her license to sell real state on the Island. She went to Del Mar college taking computer and art classes. Rose loved traveling, music, fishing, painting, and entertaining at her home on Padre Island. She moved from the Island to her home in Corpus Christi in 2005 at the age of 86. She was a very strong confident woman and will be missed greatly by family and friends.
A gathering will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Corpus Christi Funeral Home, with a Memorial service at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
