Obituary

Robert Joseph Joubert, known to all as “Joe”, 84, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on March 23, 2024 after battling heart and lung issues. After attending St. Patrick school and College Academy, he was graduated from W. B. Ray H.S. in May, 1957; that same day he met Lanette Smith, the love of his life and they married on his 21st birthday in 1960. He attended Texas A & M College Class of 1961, being graduated in May 1962. He proudly served his country as a commissioned officer in the Air Force from June 1962 until he was honorably discharded in December 1971. His service as a Communications Officer included Puerto Rico, Turkey, and several locations in the states. He was involved in several top secret operations in support of the Air Force in Viet Nam. During his service career, their son Jeff “Bear” was born in Corpus Christi, daughter Barbara was born in Puerto Rico and son Paul was born in Rome, New York. In 1972 the family moved to Houston for Lanette to attend law school. Joe owned a large-room sound business, having put the first sound system in the Louisiana SuperDome. During his first treatment for lymphoma, they decided to return to Corpus Christi and accomplished that in June 1983. He worked for his school friend Jerry Mathieu where he started the telephone company. He then worked in telephone and computer sales until he retired from Absolute Communications. Then he served as CFO of Lanette’s law practice.

Joe loved to travel with his family and made several wonderful trips to Europe, California, Washington DC, Canada and many happy times in the states. He and Lanette enjoyed 66 years together and 63 very happy years married. Most of all, Joe loved to fish in the Laguna Madre and relax in his nephew Rick Peetz’s cabin at the mouth of Baffin Bay. He and Lanette traveled to New Zealand, Australia, Missouri, Montana and Colorado on fishing trips.

Predeceasing Joe was his mother, his infant daughter Juliana and his dear cousin Walter “Man” Chapman. He is survived by his loving wife Lanette, son Jeff “Bear” of Tomball, Texas; daugher Barbara of Flatonia, Texas; and son Paul and daughter-in-law Judy of Georgetown, Texas. He is also survived by his three wonderful grandchildren, Elliot of Georgetown, Texas; Dylan of Round Rock, Texas; and Emily and husband John Chaffin of Round Rock, Texas. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Diann Collins of Corpus Christi, nephew Rick Peetz and wife Lorie of Corpus Christi and their children Josh and Madeline Peetz of Houston and niece Lana and her husband Brad Clay and their children Abby, Dalton and Owen of Austin. He has many close friends in Corpus Christi including Bill and Beverly Rodgers, Sandi Stromsted, Bertha Alvarado, Casi Casaras, Mary Jane Zanalas, Camille Habeeb, Curtis and Mary Lee Cantwell and his precious four-legged friends Molly and Harry.

We are grateful to all the doctors and staff at P.A.M. hospital, especially David Alvarez, P.T. for their loving care. We also appreciate Paul Heath, M.D. who saved Joe’s life during a heart attack which gave us many more precious years together.
