With deepest sorrow, we announce the unexpected passing of a beloved son and dearest friend, Richard Luna II, age 41 on Saturday, October 3, 2020. He was born on August 19, 1979 to Richard and Eduvina Luna. He graduated from W.B. Ray High School in 1998. He, then, obtained a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
Richard had a passion for education. He had the pleasure of teaching at M.L. Garza-Gonzalez Charter School and the Education Service Center for adult education. He felt lucky to teach his wonderful students. Last year, Richard was asked to write a message to his students. This was his message:
To all my Eagles,
It’s been an honor and a privilege to watch you grow. All of you have made my year brighter. As you continue through your life, never forget to keep learning and strive for excellence. I am proud of you and wish you nothing but the best.
Those who knew Richard, even just a little, have lost a shining light in their lives.
We know Richard is now with his father, Richard Luna, his maternal grandparents, Robert Leon Sr. and Viola R. Leon, his paternal grandparents, Rogelio G. Luna and Julia R. Luna, and his uncle, Robert Leon Jr.
He will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and his huge-loving heart. Richard will be missed everyday by his mother, Eduvina (Winnie) Luna, his life-long friend Melisa Marvin, his loving aunts Cyndi Leon (Ray), Marina Maldonado (Johnny), Mary Canales (Manuel), uncles, cousins and many, many great friends.
Pallbearers will be Rob Leon, Carlo Flores, Javier Garcia, Edward Rene Serment, Dago Gonzales, and John Alvarado.
Due to social distancing, all services will be private. Livestream of the Rosary will be available on Friday, October 9, 2020 at 7:00 p.m.
The family would like to thank everyone for the love and support shown to us. A special thanks to the staff at ML Garza-Gonzalez Charter School and Education Service Center.
