Richard Flores

Richard was born on September 3, 1946 to Manuel Esteban Flores and Eva Flores.  He died on November 19th, 2022 after a long illness.

He was a devoted husband and father who loved his family beyond measure. Richard served in the U.S.Army from 1966-1969.  In 1974 he married his wife, Rosario Cantu, and they were married for 48 years, always together until his passing. Richard suffered a stroke in 2018 and his life was a struggle from then on.  Despite his physical ailments and setbacks he never complained, enduring many painful procedures. He had a strong will to live and fought until the end.  Although unable to communicate verbally, he spoke with his eyes and always let us know what was on his mind.

He is survived by his loving wife, Rosario Flores, who was his advocate and voice throughout his illness, his sons Mario (Marie) Flores and Rene Flores.  He is also survived by his siblings, who also loved him dearly, Dolores (David) Flores, Charlie Flores, and Gloria (Joe) Torres.  He also had many cousins, nieces and nephews, whom he loved and cherished. 

He worked as a Letter Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 29 years and had many dear friends there.  He was extremely proud of his Mexican-American heritage and a proud member of an indigenous danza group, Kalpulli Ehekatl Papalotzin, which means, 'Venerable Butterfly of the Wind'.  He took every opportunity to talk about the magnificent culture and beautiful traditions of his indigenous ancestors.

The family would like to thank all the medical staff who took care of him these past four years, including Dr.Dan Dubberly, who was his primary physician at the time of his stroke. We also thank the nurses and CNAs at Windsor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, who always tried to make him laugh and make his life a little easier.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, November 25, 2022 at Corpus Christi Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
