Regino Mendez

Regino Mendez, at 90 years young, passed away on December 11, 2018. A carpenter by trade, an artist at heart, Regino shaped the world around him to match his enduring sense of humor and firm perseverance for living.
 
Born in Monterrey, Mexico on September 7, 1928 to Guadalupe and Paz Mendez, he started working at the age of 9. As his uncle taught him the carpentry trade, a lifelong dedication to creation was born when Regino built his own first toy airplane from scratch.
 
Marrying Herminia Preciado at 18 years old, the Mendez family settled in South Texas and grew to a family of 8 children, close to 30 grandchild, and many more great-grandchildren. Regino leaves behind a family legacy of laughter, music, and hard work.
 
A lifelong partner and companion to his wife, teacher and fixer of all things to his children, bringer of marranitos and Happy Meals to his grandchildren, firm and generous jefe to the men of Mendez Construction, and neighborhood comedian and D.J. to his community, Regino Mendez will be missed by all those lucky enough to know him. He will be remembered for his quick wit, the classic dance moves and serenades always at the ready, a stubborn, steadfast independence, and a giant of a man standing proud at 4'11" tall and surrounded by the love of his vast family.
 
Regino is survived by his wife of 72 years of marriage, Herminia Mendez of Corpus Christi, TX and his 8 children and their spouses Maria Luisa (Erasmo) Mendieta of Cedar Park, TX, Esperanza Resendez of San Antonio, TX, Jaime (Dora) Mendez of Banquete, TX, Ruth Mendez of Corpus Christi, TX, Guadalupe Mendez of Corpus Christi, TX, George & Michelle Mendez of San Antonio, TX, Rosa Maria (Hossein) Khosrowsalafi and Eriberto Mendez both also of Corpus Christi, TX. Other survivors include nearly 30 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
 
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Friday, December 14th 2018 at Seaside Reid Mausoleum Chapel, 4357 Ocean Drive, Corpus Christi, Texas. A Rosary Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 PM that same evening at Seaside Reid Mausoleum Chapel. A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 1:30 PM on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Seaside Reid Mausoleum Chapel. Burial will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.

Regino Méndez, a los 90 años de edad, falleció el 11 de diciembre de 2018. Carpintero de profesión, artista de corazón, Regino dio forma al mundo que lo rodeaba para igualar su perdurable sentido del humor y su firme perseverancia para vivir.
Nacido en Monterrey, México, el 7 de septiembre de 1928, hijo de Guadalupe y Paz Méndez, comenzó a trabajar a la edad de 9 años. Cuando su tío le enseñó el oficio de carpintería, Regino construyó su primer avión de juguete desde cero e inició una vida dedicada a la creación.
Casándose con Herminia Preciado a los 18 años de edad, la familia Méndez se estableció en el sur de Texas y crió una familia de 8 hijos, cerca de 30 nietos y muchos más bisnietos. Regino deja un legado familiar de risas, música y trabajo duro.
Socio y compañero de toda la vida de su esposa, maestro y reparador de todo de sus hijos, portador de marranitos y Happy Meals para sus nietos, jefe firme y generoso de los hombres de Méndez Construction, y comediante de barrio y D.J. en su comunidad, Regino Méndez será extrañado por todos aquellos afortunados que lo conocieron. Será recordado por su ingenio, sus clásicos pasos de baile y las serenatas siempre a la orden, una independencia firme y obstinada, y el gigante orgulloso de 1.50m de altura y rodeado por el amor de su vasta familia.

Otros familiares incluyen casi 30 nietos y numerosos bisnietos.
El velorio se realizará el viernes 14 de diciembre de 2018 de 5:00 PM a 9:00 PM en la Capilla del Mausoleo de Seaside Reid, 4357 Ocean Drive, Corpus Christi, Texas. Un servicio de oración por el rosario se llevará a cabo a las 7:00 PM esa misma noche en la Capilla del Mausoleo de Seaside Reid. El sábado 15 de diciembre de 2018 se celebrará un servicio fúnebre en la capilla del mausoleo de Seaside Reid. El entierro seguirá en Seaside Memorial Park.
