Regena Kay Shandy made her entrance into this world on May 10, 1962 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She entered a land free from sorrow and pain on Tuesday, August 20, 2019. She was the third child born to the union of Charles and Mattie Shandy.
As a child Regena was the family comedian and prankster. She could make a joke out of anything and keep us laughing for hours.
Throughout her youth Regena attended Saint John Baptist Church under the pastorialship of Reverend Harold T. Branch, DD., and was baptized at a young age. She attended Sunday School and sang in the Children’s Choir.
She received her formal education in the Corpus Christi Independent School District and graduated from Foy H. Moody High School in 1980. Regena attended the University of New Mexico where she learned a trade and became a phlebotomist. Regena worked in the Emergency Room at Memorial Hospital as an Instrument Technician for a number of years. Later she studied cosmetology at Vouge Beauty College in Corpus Christi, TX and became a licensed beautician, she worked in that capacity for more than thirty years. Regena also held a certification as a licensed Barber and Cosmetology Instructor. She taught at Ronnie J’s Barber College in Dallas, TX.
In 1988, Regena united in marriage to George Baskin. She became a military wife and traveled abroad. She lived in Japan for a number of years. Regena gave birth to two beautiful children LaVan and Shandy Baskin. She cherished her children and wanted to see them excel and achieve great things.
Regena was an excellent cook. She loved to bake and celebrate life. She enjoyed going to the beach and relaxing at the T-Heads in Corpus Christi, TX. Meeting new family members and developing relationships with them was high on her list of priorities. She loved family and friends dearly. She will be missed for the joy and laughter she brought to all of our lives.
