Raquel M. Rios
October 14, 1958 ~ May 20, 2019 (age 60) 60 Years Old

Raquel Rios was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer on her birthday of October 14, 2010 that spread to her bones, lungs, liver and brain. She considered this to be Gods creative way of reminding her that He would do glorious things in and through her life. Paul writes, “a thorn was given (Grk - “gifted”) me in the flesh...Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” Raquel took this as the means by which the Lord would be made much of. Every birthday was a testament of the power of God at work in her, and it served as a reminder to all that He is sufficient. She believed the Lord had gifted her on her birthday so that we never forget that all the glory would be His and no one else’s. What was suppose to be a life of 5 painful years, the Lord gave her nearly 9 painless years of life. She often quoted, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?” (John 11:46)—she believed and saw His glory on display in different ways. For 60 years she saw His glory in this life, but on May 20 at 5:20pm she closed her eyes here to have them opened in heaven where she now beholds Jesus—who is the glory of God. Raquel did have many ups and downs but the light of the gospel scintillated and conquered in every dark night. When The Lord said, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in your weakness” He was laying claim that in our weakness He remains enough so that His power is on display. Whether or not we are healed from weaknesses in this life Christ is able to manifest His supreme glory and power over it all. This a beacon of glorious hope that the power of Christ is able to win over cancer. God is able to do exceedingly more than we could imagine, exceedingly more than healing cancer, God is able to work all of it for good. Cancer never had the last word on Raquel, the Lord did. He alone had His victory and He alone carried her home when He wanted her home. Christ is able to do it with you if you can believe and see Jesus, the very glory of God. Soli Deo Gloria—to God alone be the glory.
