Petra M. Gonzales

Our Beloved Mother, Petra M. Gonzales, 88, peacefully passed away in her home on September 27, 2021. She was born on July 10, 1933 in Corpus Christi, Texas where she remained a life long resident. Petra was a member of the Girls Choir and F.H.A. at Roy Miller High School prior to graduation in 1953. Upon graduation, she worked in retail and as a secretary in the oil & gas industry until motherhood. She volunteered as a home room mother at her children’s schools and continued working intermittently as a sales clerk/cashier at Morris Five and Dime Store with her older sister, Lupe and other relatives.

Petra enjoyed dancing, hosting parties at her home for family and friends and will be remembered for her love and collection of elephants. She perfected her grandmother, Primitiva’s, deliciously famous pan de polvo cookie recipe and was fondly referred to as the “Bean Queen”. She enjoyed traveling with her sisters and extended family.

Petra was a kind and generous soul who welcomed everyone she met with her beautiful smile. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and was considered a surrogate mother by many. She loved and was loved by her family, nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors and spoiled all babies and children with her love and affection.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Gilberto Martinez and Eva Ornelas. Her older sister, Guadalupe “Lupe O” Martinez, her grandson, Raul Segura, Jr. and former husband, Esteven Gonzales.

She is survived by her four children, Jesus Gilberto Gonzales, Gregorio Gonzales (Sandra), Norma Eva Gonzales, and Esteven Gonzales, Jr. (Jamie Hunter). Grandchildren: Samantha Gonzales, Gregorio Gonzales, Jr. Victor-Armani Gonzales, Arden Gabriel Gonzales, Leo and Stevan Doria, Myla Kyleigh Gonzales and great grandson, Ruben Jesse Gonzales, younger sister, Ana Maria Guzman (Ramiro), nieces, Jessica and Ana Liza Guzman, nephew Peter Jacob Guzman; cousins, Dora DeLuna, Norma Farias, Margot Gonzalez (Leonardo), Mike (Alma) Ornelas.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM, Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Corpus Christi Funeral Home with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM that same evening. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
