Son, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather- a man who loved well and was well-loved; Oscar Pena Martinez passed away peacefully Wednesday April 24, 2024, at the age of 96.
Oscar was the first of four children born December 11, 1927, in Montemorelos, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. He is preceded in death by his wife Catalina Cavazos Pena, parents Santos Pena and Juanita Martinez, his sister Raquel Pena Martinez, and brother Raul Pena Martinez.
He is survived by his sister, Josefina Pena Martinez of Montemorelos, Nuevo Leon, his six children Raquel (Danny) Lopez, Carmen (Francisco) Osornia, Cecilia (Martin) Hinojosa, Leticia (Richard) Rivera Andrade, Norma (Orlando) Herrera, Oscar (Amanda) Peña. Twenty-one grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Oscar married the love of his life Catalina on October 29, 1961. The two were each other’s lifelong companions that loved to stay physically active, travel and devoted their lives to raising their six children in a home full of love, laughter, and faith. He loved sharing his memories and wisdom with all his loved ones, especially his grandchildren.
Oscar will especially be remembered for his kindness and captivating smile that always ended in laughter. He loved his family and instilled that unity in family makes our life on earth more beautiful. Oscar will be remembered for his trade of carpentry and engineering skills that opened many opportunities that carved the path of his life. His remarkable skills gave him opportunities like participating in the design of the Whataburger by the Bay staircase and the memorial at Driscoll Children’s Hospital. He worked for Brown and Root for 30 years and was well respected and recognized for the knowledge he brought to the company. He enjoyed traveling, visiting family in Mexico, and family gatherings.
Visitation starts at 5:00 pm with rosary at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, May 1st, at the Corpus Christi Funeral Home, 2409 Baldwin Blvd, Corpus Christi, TX 78405. Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 2nd, at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Corpus Christi. He will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Memorial Park, May 2nd.
The pallbearers will be his grandsons, Tomas, Diego, Daniel, Orlando Miguel, Itzak, Oscar, Vicente, Ricardo, Armando, Carlos, Jayce and Antonio.
