It is with great sadness that the family of Omar Alaniz Vera, age 70, announces his passing on March 25, 2018 in Corpus Christi, Texas after a battle with cancer. Omar Alaniz Vera was born on January 29, 1948 to David G. Vera and Maria Estela Alaniz. He graduated from WB Ray High School in 1967. He served in the U.S. Army from August 9, 1967 to August 7, 1970 during the Vietnam War. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter-Rifle, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Omar will be remembered for his love of golf. He enjoyed playing golf with his buddies 2-3 times a week. Omar Alaniz Vera was a devoted son, brother, and loving father to his two daughters, Marisa Vera and Sharisse Vera Leal. He is preceded in death by his parents, Maria Estela Vera and David G. Vera, his brothers David Ricardo Vera and Olivero Vera. Omar will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Marisa Vera and Sharisse Vera Leal; fondly remembered by his three grandchildren, Freddy Leal Jr., Makayla Leal and Steel Herrera; his siblings, Yolanda Vera Benavidez (Jimmy), Irma Vera Garcia (Hector Jr.); his nephews and niece, Joe Oliver Vera, Jacob Davila, David Vera, and Victoria Vera. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Corpus Christi Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. A Viewing will continue at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church for a 9:30 a.m. Funeral Mass. Interment will follow at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. We would like to thank the medical team at Bay Area Hospital as well as the attention and care from Dr. Emile C. Salloum at Coastal Bend Cancer Center.
