Obituary

Norman Mitchell was blessed to see 8o years on this earth. Born by way of New Iberia, Louisiana and residing in Corpus Christi, TX. He passed peacefully on Monday January 3rd, 2022. He took his first steps back towards God’s welcoming hands surrounded by family and loved ones up until his last earthly breath.
Norman was born on December 14, 1941 to Soloman Varise and Roberta Mitchell in New Iberia Parish, Louisiana. He graduated from New Iberia Senior High School in 1960. Soon after graduation he enlisted into the United States Navy, from which he embarked on a fruitful and satisfying career which saw completion after 26 years of servitude for his country. He achieved rank of Chief Petty Officer (E7) before he brought his career to a close. After completion he began a new adventure with the United States Postal Service Dept. He gave them another 15 years towards the story in his book of life. Retiring in 2010.
Norman was a God fearing man determined to provide for his family and succeed in all endeavors. He wanted them to have the life that he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything that could be earthly provided. Something that he often mentioned! He will always be remembered for his love of laughter, quiet calm nature, steadfastness, and sense of adventure. All of which his Navy shipmates and family would attest to. He loved the Lord, going into the house of the Lord, and praising the Lord! He was a faithful and subservient member of Corpus Christi Christian Fellowship where he served as a greeter on Sundays. He enjoyed reading and listening to audio books. Keeping up on new technology and singing along to Hymnals and Gospel music. His favorites being Amazing Grace (Aretha Franklin’s rendition), and Sam Cooke’s (A Change is Gonna Come). Anyone who came in contact with Norman knew that he was a loving father and dedicated husband.
He is preceded in passing by his mother; Roberta Mitchell, father; Soloman Varise, brother; Joseph Mitchell, and sister; Rose Harris.
