Nieves G. Cerda, Jr., age 77, passed away on April 7, 2021. He was born on March 15, 1944 to Mr. and Mrs. Nieves Cerda, Sr. Nieves graduated from Mary Carrol High School in 1963. He was enlisted in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967. Nieves was employed by Corpus Christi Army Depot and retired in 2006. He enjoyed gardening, coaching, drawing and watching sports. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and going to the Frio River on family vacations. He will always be remembered for his love for his family. He loved every one of us and was always involved in his children and grandchildren’s lives; from dance recitals, music performances and all sports events. He is and always will be our number one fan. Nieves was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Nieves is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nieves Cerda, Sr., brothers, Raphael Cerda, Moses Cerda, Juan Cerda, Noel Cerda, Ramiro Cerda and sister, Olga Prado.
Nieves is survived by his wife, of 52 years, Olga Nino Cerda, children, Sandra Sanchez (Eduardo Cortez), Ernest Cerda (Tessie), Nieves Cerda, III (Maricela), Selina Cerda (Andrew Arredondo), Gabriel Cerda (Jessica Molina), 18 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, siblings, Diana Garza (Roland), Janie Cerda (Melissa) and Robert Cerda, numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, April 9, 2021 at Corpus Christi Funeral Home, a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
Having the distinguished honor to serve, as pallbearers are his grandsons, Sebastian Cerda, Zachary Cerda, Daniel Trevino, Gabriel Cerda Jr., Nicholas Cerda and Bartolo Sanchez. Honorary pallbearer is Damian Arredondo.
