Maria Elena Cortez

Maria Elena Cortez, age 89, passed away on March 20, 2024. Maria was born on January 23, 1935, to the late Juan and Christina Morales. She will always be remembered for her love of laughter, music, devotion to family and cooking bean tacos for her loved ones. She loved being surrounded by her family and hearing music. Maria Elena Cortez was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  

Maria Elena Cortez is preceded in death by her husband Maximino Cortez, her son Maximino Cortez Jr., and her daughter Alicia Lopez. 

Maria Elena Cortez is survived by her children Maria G. Cortez, Juan (Pauline) Cortez, Ester (Fernando) Salinas, Irene Martinez, and Blanca (Antonio H.) Lopez, twenty grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren. 

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, March 25, 2024, at Corpus Christi Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.  

Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers are Ruben Cortez, Mark Cortez, R.J. Cortez, Juan Cortez Jr., Eric Lopez, and Michael Lopez. 

Honorary pallbearers are Antonio H. Lopez III, Rudy Alonzo III, and Fernando Salinas Jr.
