Obituary

Manuel Salazar, Jr., age 72, passed away in his sleep on Monday, March 11, 2019, after a long battle with Chronic COPD & Type 2 Diabetes.

Manuel is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lucy A. Salazar, and his 3 children: Manuel Salazar III, Graciela (Salazar) Chavera, and Richard Salazar; his 7 grandchildren: Mia Salazar, Paul Salazar, Jacob Pinelo, Selena Cox, Valerie Rodriguez, Emma Salazar, and Richard Salazar; and, his 7 great-grandchildren: Emilee Salazar, Paul Salazar Jr., Victoria DeLaMora, Londyn Reyna, Evalyn Reyna, Nathan DeLaMora, and Julian Cash Salazar.

Manuel grew up in Brownsville, Texas. He took pride in the fact that he always took care of his wife and children; an attribute gained growing up with a large family of his parents and 8 siblings. He expanded his work ethic throughout his years by his natural attention to details - gaining him the medals he earned when he served in the Army from 1966-1972: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign w/60 Device Medal, Vietnam Service 1 O/S Bar Medal, and Good Conduct (1st award) Medal.

He served two years in the Vietnam War from 1966-1968, serving in the 9th Division Infantry and continued his service as part of the National Guard until he was Honorably Discharged. Along with his family, his passions were fishing, maintaining his yard, and playing golf. The discipline and patriotism he learned in Army never left him, as his surviving family & friends will attest.

The Corpus Christi Funeral Home will be hosting his services on Monday, March 18, 2019 at 7pm (viewing) and Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at 11:30am. He will be laid to rest at the Veterans Cemetery following Tuesday’s services at 1pm.
