Obituary

Lucia DeLeon Champion, age 76, passed away on January 7, 2021. She was born on October 26, 1944 to Estela Ramos and Felipe DeLeon.

Lucia began working as a housekeeper at a young age and worked her way up to a supervisor position in various nursing homes. When she left the nursing home community she was hired to open Embassy Suites in Corpus Christi, Texas as a housekeeping supervisor. Here she enjoyed meeting new people and teaching employees how to properly care for guests. In 1999, she took a leap of faith by opening Lucy’s Janitorial Service. Not only did she enjoy opening her own company, but she felt a sense of pride by making her customers lives easier by spoiling them. Throughout the years she owned her company she made many customers happy and taught the importance of cleanliness to her grandchildren. Taking them along to see how hard she worked and enforcing the importance of a good education. Most of her grandchildren learned to tie their first knot by participating in Grandma Lucy’s Trash Bag Tying Knot 101.

She will always be remembered for her devotion to God and her family. She enjoyed quality time with her daughters, grandchildren and family members. She would talk on the phone for hours with her sisters, brothers, daughters, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. She took pleasure in sharing the word of God and spoke of the importance of having a relationship with God and Jesus. She loved working on her daily bible verses and coloring beautiful pictures to express her creativity. Each day of the week she had a different reality TV show she watched with her little bowl of popcorn and her partner in crime, Sophie, the family dog. She had love for God and her family, but desserts followed right behind. She enjoyed special treats baked by her sisters Janie and Vina, along with her goodies her brother Martin would bring. She cherished every bite until it was gone and looked forward to their next visit. She loved when her daughters, Rosie, Ruby and Christie would plan their yearly lunch dates and set aside their busy schedules to spend time with their mom. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren each had a special place in her heart and she adored each of them. Although she was very ill, she remained as active as her health would permit by making daily lists to help organize and keep her busy.

Lucia was a loving daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend.

Lucia is preceded in death by her father, Felipe Deleon, mother, Estela Ramos, step-father, Martin Barrientez, spouse, Roy Champion, brothers Felipe Deleon Jr. and Enrique DeLeon, brother in-law Michael Klein and her loving miniature poodle Missy.

Lucia is survived by 3 daughters, Rosie Davis (Mike), Ruby Rodriguez (Albert) and Christina Ramos (Albert), 8 Grandchildren, Nicolle, Danielle (Alex), Teneill (Andy), Victoria-Kate, Valarie, Crystle (Sam), Ruben Peewee II (Toni) and Johnny (Shannon), 21 Great-Grandchildren, Johnathan, Ashton, Noah, Maverick, Emilee, Sakura, Aaron, Aubrie, Haleigh, Caleb, Ava, Lillian, Krystianne, Sammy, Matthew, Ruben Jr., Camilla, Gabriel, Kaitlyn, Roslynn, Rylan, 2 sisters, Alvina Leal (David) and Janie Klein, 1 brother Martin Barrientez Jr. (Dale), numerous nieces and nephews, and her partner in crime Sophie the family dog.

These are the names of her loving family members who will never forget Lucia. She had nicknames for everyone and it was the funniest, yet cutest remembrance she left us with. We all cherished the moments we shared with her and cannot wait to meet her again in Heaven.
