Karen J. Gerty

Karen J. Lewis Gerty, age 65, passed away on Sunday March 21, 2021 in her home. Karen was born on March 16, 1956 to RL and Corinne Lewis of Refugio, Texas. She attended Refugio High School. Many years she served as a group home manager and certified nurse aide where she took pride in assisting and caring for the elderly and disabled.    
Karen knew her way around the kitchen, leaving family and friends satisfied. She enjoyed good music, a good laugh, making others laugh.  She saw good in people. She was strong spirited and had a beautiful smile. Karen was a loving mother, daughter, sister, cousin and friend. She was a member of Calvary First Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Richardson. Of all that Karen would be remembered by is her faith, belief and acceptance of the gospel of Jesus the Christ, the only begotten of the Father, as God, Lord and Savior.
Karen is preceded in death by her parents RL and Corinne Lewis, sister, Janice Sims Haynes and brothers Harold Sims Jr, and James Green. 
She is survived by sons and daughters Kerri Lewis, Michael and Kristen Young, Karlin Gerty and Kurston and Jeannifer Gerty and grandchildren Kerri, Ciera, Brandes, Kevin and Nathaniel Lewis, Michael, Dekari and Damari Young, Isom, Amari, Endika, Lenyah and Shalom Gerty, Kassidy, Kandace, Kween and Kaleisie Gerty, and one great-grandaughter, Alanah Lewis. 
Karen is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Leon and George Lewis, Jewel Sims, Rosemary Martin, Shirley Sims, and Brenda Franklin. She leaves behind love-filled memories for all of her nieces, nephews, cousins and life-long friends.  
Visitation will be held from 4pm to 9pm on Friday, March 26, 2021 at Corpus Christi Funeral Home, 2409 Baldwin Blvd, with a prayer service at 7pm that same evening. Funeral Services will be held at Calvary First Baptist Church on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 11am. Interment to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. 
Having the distinguished honor to serve, as pallbearers are Kerri D. Lewis, Kerri Q.  Lewis, Justin Franklin, Michael Young, Dekari Young, Karlin Gerty, Kurston Gerty and Javon Hicks.
