Juanita (Janie) Almazan Rodriguez, 91, gained her heavenly wings Saturday, November 19, 2022. She was born in Donna, Texas, July 22, 1931, to Camilo Almazan and Cruz Contreras Almazan.
She was the youngest of 7 children and was the last surviving sibling. Janie was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was very active at Christ the King Catholic Church and served as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, home-bound ministry and throughout the years she was involved with the Crusillo, prayer group, Spanish Choir, Trinitarians, St. Monica's, Rosary Group and the Guadalupanas. She was well known for her sunny disposition, singing and always having a joke on hand.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Homero Marroquin Rodriguez, her daughter Petra (Gracie) Perez, and her siblings Ramon Almazan, Juan Almazan, Carlotta Almazan, Angelita Almazan, Maria Almazan Perez and Florinda Almazan Estevis.
She is survived by her children Irma Rodriguez Perez, Homer Rodriguez, Jr., Riveriano (Joe) Rojas, Patricia Hill, Carlos Gomez, Jr., Mary Helen Gomez; grandchildren, Alondra Brea Perez, Robert Rodriguez, Michael Rodriguez, Heather (Luke) Rodriguez, Maria Cristina Perez, Lyal Sandry, Sabrina Sandry Robert's (Karl), Andrea Sandry Jensen (Jake), Carl Hill and great-grandchildren. As well as two god-daughters that were close to her heart, Irene Zapata and Frances Antunez.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at Corpus Christi Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, December 2, 2022 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
