Obituary

Juan “Blackie” A. Medrano, age 92, passed away on February 15, 2019. Juan was born June 24, 1926, in Woodsboro, Texas To Nestora Aguilera Medrano and Casimiro Medrano. He served and retired after 35 years from the Merchant Marines, which took him all over the world.

Juan will always be remembered for his sense of adventure, gusto for life and being surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

“Blackie” will be remembered for being a loving husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and a loyal friend.

Juan “Blackie” is preceded in death by his parents Casimiro and Nestora Medrano, his sisters, Georgia Barrera, Maria DeAses, Adela Obregon, Guadalupe Santana, and a brother Danny Medrano.

Juan “Blackie” is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Santa Ybarra Medrano, his daughters, Patricia Woolsey (Denny), Gracie Medrano, Peggy Clarke (Charles), Rachel Bradley (Steve), and Lucy Horne (Rick). His grandchildren LT. Colonel Joseph Brian Woolsey (Lizzie), Patrick Kevin Woolsey, Cody Horne, Alex Horne (Crystal), Michael Bradley (Rachael), and Sam Bradley (Meagan). Juan “Blackie” is also survived by his great-grandchildren Mayhem, Eloise, Kolohe, Sky, and Selby Woolsey, Landon and Emmett Bradley, Xavier, Luna, Jaiden and Jax Horne. Juan “Blackie” is also survived by Joe Henry Ybarra, Nora Schell, Mike Orrman, and Joseph Schell.

Visitation will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at Seaside Reid Mausoleum Chapel, 4357 Ocean Dr., Corpus Christi, Texas 78412, with a Rosary at 12:00 noon, Interment to follow Seaside Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

In addition, Juan “Blackie’s” family would like to acknowledge Altus Hospice, especially Misty Whitley and Deacon Armando Leal, for the exceptional support, kindness, and care.
