Obituary

John M. Edwards, III was the second of five children born to the parents of John M. Edwards, Jr. and Lela McCartney Edwards on July 24, 1950 in Dallas, Texas and was called home on November 8, 2018.
Reared in a Christian home, he professed his faith in Christ at a young age and was baptized at Pilgrim Rest B.C. under the leadership of the late Rev. G. T. Britt.
He received his formal education in the Dallas Public School system and graduated from L.G. Pinkston High school in 1968 where he was a member of the Mighty Vikings marching band. He went on to attend Prairie View A&M University before enlisting into the U.S. Navy from 1970 - 1978.
John was a devoted member of the Westhaven Baptist Church and was ordained as Chairman of the Deacon Board in 1982 by the late Rev. C. L. Jones, Jr. He was lovingly referred to as “Deacon Candyman” by all. He believed in providing for his family as he was employed with Sherwin Aluminum for over 30+ years.
A good man’s heart stopped beating to allow a good soul to ascend into heaven. John Edwards was a great servant of our LORD. His service to others was more than just a motto, to him, it was the way he lived his life.

John is preceded in death by his parents, his older brother, Major Jerry D. Edwards, and his daughter Valencia Hosey.
Because Family was everything to John, if he claimed you, there was nothing else to be said. His life’s legacy will continue to touch those he has left to cherish: his beloved wife, Vonne’; his children: Todd Hunt; Angela Terrence; Datra Pruitt; Ryan Winchester; Melanie Harris; Kortnee Clark; Klentin Clark; Kimyia Clark; and Isaiah Fields. His siblings: Linda James and Jackie Barry and his brother, Louis Edwards; and an aunt, Viola Draper, all from the Dallas, TX area; a GOD-Appointed sister, Ella Cunningham-Tones - Houston, TX; and a Host of unbelievable grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends.
John M. Edwards III, you are immensely missed, already!!!
