Obituary


James Lynn Hopkins, 76, passed on to heaven on December 10, 2018 at home. Jim was born February 18, 1942 in Shawnee, OK to Clarence Lynn Hopkins and Lolita Aline Johnson Hopkins who preceded him in death.
Because Jim’s dad was a career Army Chaplain, he spent his early teen years in Europe with Austria and France being his favorites and often the subject of his vivid descriptions. Once back in the States, Jim and his parents lived in Kentucky, Oklahoma, and Texas, where he graduated from Mineral Wells High. He then attended the University of Oklahoma, graduating as a a devoted OU fan with his BBA in 1965,. The OU flag was proudly hung on game days at his home.
Jim served his time in the Army Reserve, married, and worked in sales with his last company, Alarm Security and Contracting.
Jim coached his children in soccer, baseball and basketball. He also served as President of Santa Fe Soccer and Coastal bend Youth Soccer Association. This group was instrumental in adding soccer as a UIL sport in the area schools. Many young men treasured “Coach”.
Papa Jim enjoyed teaching all his grandchildren to swim, diving for pennies. The Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs and the Oklahoma Sooners were all his teams. Reading, Words with Friends, and kayaking the river Blanco were a part of his life. He was thrilled to attend the 2018 Big 12 Championship which the Sooners won.
Jim is survived by his wife, Virginia Buckley Hopkins and his former spouse Trish Hopkins and her children, Trevor Lynn Hopkins, Sean Land Hopkins (Mary Lee) of Round Rock, Heather Christine Wellman (Jeffrey) of Katy. Grandchildren are Andrew Lynn Gomez, Britton Edward Gomez, Isabella Grace Hopkins, John Ernest Travis Wellman, and Jude Land Wellman. Two great grandchildren are Keegan James Lynn Gomez and Sydney Marie Ann Gomez. Jim loved them all.
Also a part of Jim’s life were Virginia’s children, Erin Buckley Pitcher and James Harrison Buckley, their spouses John Pitcher, Jane Corey Buckley and grandchildren Ena June Buckley and John Harrison Pitcher. He loved them as his own.
A quiet man who always had a quick turn of phrase funny or serious he was well liked and well loved by those who knew him.
A service of memorial will be held January 3rd at St Luke’s UMC, 3151 Reid Dr. Corpus Christi, 78404 at 10:00am. A reception to follow at the church. Corpus Christi Funeral Home; corpuschristifh.com
