Obituary

Irma Dominguez Ochoa passed away unexpectedly, peacefully, and surrounded by family on November 26, 2021. She was born in Nuevo Laredo, Tamps, Mexico March 24, 1935 to Salvador and Estela Dominguez, the first of nine children. She married Juan Jose Ochoa (“Joe”) in 1959, and they had three children. She was a loving wife, mother, and a smart, strong woman, who liked to laugh, shop, dance, travel, and stay busy. She also loved to sit, drink coffee, eat pan-dulce, and share family stories. She was involved in her childrens’ school activities, and served a term as President of the Oak Park Elementary School PTA. She had always wanted to be a nurse, and in the 1970’s, graduated from the Del Mar College Nursing program. During this timeframe, she became active in local politics. She did all of this while handling cancer treatments, and was a 40 year breast cancer survivor. As a nurse, she worked in the hospital and later for the City of Corpus Christi health department, retiring in the mid 90’s. During the 1980’s she had a restaurant in the Clarkwood area where many people would congregate (one couple we know of met there and married). After retiring from the City, she opened a floral business and continued to work for the next 10 years. She was awarded Business Woman of the Year in 1999. She was married for over 62 years and provided care for her husband in the last 10 years of his life.

She is preceded in death by her husband Juan Jose Ochoa (who died 6 months ago), son John Ochoa, parents Salvador and Estela Dominguez, sister Janie Sharp, and, brother Manuel Dominguez.

She is survived by her children Susan Ochoa (former Jim Spiering), Daniel Ochoa, grandchildren Rachel Hernandez (Jose), Claire Albanese (Tyler) great grandson Andres Hernandez, sisters Gloria Plemons, Yolanda Garza, Lydia Terracciano (Joe), Connie Castillo, Maria Garcia (Alberto), Chris Escarzaga. Numerous nieces, nephews, and family members both in the USA and Mexico, all of whom she loved. Her family is also grateful to the many other individuals who touched and shaped her life, including providers and attendees. She will be missed.
