Iris Francis

Mrs. Iris G. Wheeler Francis, age 65, departed this life to be with her Heavenly Father, June 28, 2022. She was a native of Waco, Texas. She graduated Salutatorian of Jefferson Moore High School, class of 1974. After attaining her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Texas in Arlington, she later she attained her Master’s Degree in Corpus Christi. She accepted a teaching position with the Corpus Christi Independent School District in 1986. She was united in marriage to Mr. Edwin Francis in 1987. She retired from CCISD in 2009. Iris accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, at a very young age. It was then, that she began her faithful, lifelong service to God. She held numerous offices at her place of worship, Saint John First Baptist Church. She worked with the young people of the church, and served as Vice President of the WMU Mission Ministry. But, her passion was singing. She served in her church choir, and she was a Charter Member of “The Anointed Voices” singing group. She participated in many city-wide singing efforts. She was elected as the President of a group of singers, who were members of “The Gospel Music Workshop of America, Corpus Christi Chapter.” She pledged with the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and was a beloved member of The Mae-Mae Sisterhood.

She leaves to cherish her memory: Her Husband of 35 years, four biological Siblings, two Aunts, one Uncle, and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Relatives and Friends.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Seaside Reid Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at St. John First Baptist Church. Another funeral service will be held in Waco, Texas at 1:00 on Friday, July 8, 2022 at Pleasant Olive Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Doris Miller Cemetery, Waco, Texas.
