Guadalupe Lara, Jr., also known by friends and family as Lupe or “Wally” was called to his heavenly home on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, after a courageous fight with an unknown illness. He was comforted and surrounded by his family at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. Our loving angel was 35 years old.
Lupe was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, on October 16, 1984, to Guadalupe Lara Sr. and Norma Garcia. He was the middle child and only son. He was loved dearly by his two sisters and his older sister gave him the nickname, “Wally”, which stuck with him throughout his entire life.
Lupe graduated from Foy Moody High School in 2003 and later graduated from Texas A&M University-Kingsville with a BA in Engineering. Lupe was always a hard worker and worked at HEB throughout high school and college. After graduating from college, he began working at CCAD as a mechanical engineer, a job he loved, cherished, and would always talk about with pride.
Lupe was an avid runner, winning several half-marathon and marathon medals. He loved competing in various races with his Road Warriors team. Lupe loved baseball and coached many kids from very young and continued to cheer on his players at all their high school events. Lupe was extremely proud of his Maniax baseball team, whom he led in winning the AAYBA World Series. He shared his love of baseball and running with his daughter, Aubry, whom he taught and practiced with proudly since the age of three. He was looking forward to sharing his love for sports as well with his son, Liam, when he got older.
Lupe was a man with a big heart and had an infectious smile that would brighten any room. He was always about family and did everything to spend time with and provide for his family. Family BBQ’s, movie & poker nights, and just being outdoors with the family whether it be at a baseball game or traveling were what Lupe loved doing. He was great at planning family vacations/trips and made sure to have an itinerary that would please everyone.
Lupe will be forever remembered by his wife and best friend, Kimberly, and their two precious children, Aubryana Maryee and Liam Guadalupe Manuel. Lupe is survived by his father, Guadalupe Lara, Sr. (Barbara); his mother, Norma (Steve) Montag; his sisters, Norma (Blas) De La Rosa and Julia (Juan) Sanchez; his paternal grandfather, Francisco Lara; and many cousins, loving relatives, and friends. Lupe is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Elena Rivera De Lara and maternal grandparents, Ralph & Julia Garcia.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2020, at Corpus Christi Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2020, at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
