Obituary
Our family is mourning the loss of Garrison “Gary” Richey, who passed away Tuesday morning, June 11. Gary was born on February 5, 1957 and was 62 years old. He was preceded in death by his father D.M., mother Elaine, and brothers Ronnie and Mike. He is survived by his devoted wife Karen, brother Sandi (Cyndi), son Jason (Brenda), daughters Nicki (Brian) and Sarah (Andrew), and his grandchildren Katarina, Zoey, Jace, Leah, Charlie, Miller, Reagan, Jonah, and a host of family and friends.
Gary leaves a legacy of hard work (especially in his many years as an electrician at Mathieu Electric), his love for his family, his devotion to God, and his enthusiastic enjoyment of a good meal. He was a tireless supporter of Nicki in her basketball adventures and Sarah in her nursing career. His grandkids loved and will miss spending time with “Pops.” He was Karen’s biggest fan, and you didn’t have to hang around him long to learn that he simply adored her. When his health was better, Gary also enjoyed serving in several local churches.
For most of Gary’s life, he was plagued by major health struggles. The family lost count of how many surgeries he had to endure and how many hospital days he logged. Most of us, thankfully, will never know what it is like to daily endure the indignities of wheelchairs, breathing machines, and dialysis. Yet we will remember Gary’s resilience, perseverance, and even good cheer through it all. And we will miss him. As we grieve, it gives us great comfort to know that Gary believed in Jesus Christ as his Savior, and has now safely arrived at a place where there is no more sorrow and no more pain.
You are invited to attend a Visitation which will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Seaside Reid Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2019 at Seaside Reid Chapel. Interment will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
