Esther Lorene Garrett

Esther Lorene Garrett, 88 years old, passed away on February 20, 2020 with her family at her bedside. She was born December 27, 1931 in Refugio County. She was raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. For her elementary, Junior High and High Schools she attended Solomon M. Coles.
Esther married Eddie Moore Garrett on February 16, 1951. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend.
She enjoyed citywide functions with her children, family members and friends. She will be remembered for her laughter, lovely soprano voice singing in school and church choir. She also played the piano for Sunday school and sang in the church singing group at an early age.
Esther is preceded in death by her parents, Henry A. Rice, Jr. and Esther Lott Rice, siblings, Henry A. Rice, III, Leo Maynard Rice, her husband, Eddie Moore Garrett, Sr., two sons, Freddie Garrett and Alvin Garrett.
Esther is survived by her two sons, Eddie Moore Garrett, Jr., of Kingsville, Texas, Marshall Garrett of Corpus Christi, Texas, step-daughter, Sharon Floyd of Corpus Christi, Texas, daughter-in-law, Brenda Lewis, of Port Arthur, Texas, two grandson, Derrick Garrett, of Port Arthur, Texas, Matthew Garrett, of Corpus Christi, Texas, first cousins, Bobbie Jean Robinson, Virginia Marie Chenault and Shirley Lott Rhodes all of Corpus Christi, Texas, special cousins, Tommy (Emma) Tippen Jr., Stephanie Regenie Rhodes, special friends, Jim (Mary) Plemons, Mary Campbell, Lorie Richie and Elizabeth “Rose” Adams all of Corpus Christi, Texas. Also, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2020 at Seaside Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at St. John Baptist Church, 5545 Greenwood Dr. Corpus Christi, Texas. Interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
