Obituary

Ester Greene Moore, age 98, left this life to be with her Lord on September 28, 2023. She
was born on January 5, 1925 to William Green and Leona Gipson-Green. Ester
graduated from Edna High School in 1942. She then moved to Austin to attend Tillotson
College and graduated with honors. She then received a teacher’s certificate but jobs
were scarce, so she started a nursery/day care at St. Paul’s Methodist. Determined to be a
professional success, she enrolled in a nursing program to become an LVN. A few years
later, she went back again to become a registered nurse and had a long career working at
Spohn Hospital. Once retired she volunteered with various organizations mostly helping
seniors while always taking a big role in her church and in her sorority, Alpha Kappa
Alpha, where she became a gold member then a lifetime member.

Ester was an avid gardener. Even as a child, she had a garden and on most days, you
could see her taking care of her yard and even her neighbors yards if they were no longer
able to care for their own. She will be remembered for being a loving mother, sister, aunt
or cousin who taught all of her children, nephews and nieces the importance of family,
church and education. She has been a member of St. Paul’s UMC for over 75 years and
loved her church. Ester loved to dress up and was known for her beautiful collection of
colorful and stylish hats.

Ester was preceded in death by her loving husband, London Moore, parents, William and
Leona Gipson-Green, stepmother Fairene Greene, brothers, Rufus Greene Sr, Willie C
Green Sr, I.G. Greene, Woodrow Greene, Herbert Greene, Howard Rhoder Sr., Johnnie
Ray Greene, Carl Greene, sisters, Pearl Sanford, Bernice Gaeta, Eloise Griffin, Lorene

A loving family survived her. Daughter, Leona Gaston (Lon) of Houston, sons, Layne
Daryl Moore of Houston, Leslie Maurice Moore (Magdalena Rood) of Austin,
granddaughter, Mariah Rogers of Corpus Christi, grandson, Rayford Scallion of Houston,
a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
