Obituary

Dominga Cortez Garcia, 83 years old was born in Kingsville, Texas on August 4, 1936 to (late) Mr. Jose G & Mrs. Petra G Cortez. She went home with our Heavenly Father on May 26, 2020 after unforeseeable medical complications. She was a long-time resident of Corpus Christi, Texas. She had eight children with (late) ex-husband Lucio Garcia, Sr.
She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother and had numerous nieces and nephews. She had the kindest heart that knew no boundaries when it came to her family. She embraced everyone with an open heart. She will truly be missed by many and loved the company of her long-time friends. She was an avid bingo player, loved to complete puzzles in her spare time and watching novelas.
She was a hard-worker and dedicated 25 years of employment at Christus Spohn Shoreline. After her retirement she volunteered her time at TX Department of Aging & Disability Services as a Foster Grandparent for 9 years. She loved the children and teachers at the various schools that she was assigned to in the Corpus Christi area. Her last volunteer assignment was Zavala Elementary. She formed many friendships with her “granny” coworkers along with the teachers and children while volunteering her time at the schools.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Jose G. Garcia and Maximino Cortez, daughter Lucia Garcia and longtime companion and husband Antonio “Tone” Compian.
She is survived by her sisters Mary Maldonado and Rosie Perez, her children Jose Luis Garcia (Lucinda), Irma G Flores (Juan Manuel), Lucio Garcia, Jr. (late Velma Jean), Lucy Sanchez (Lionel), Diana Redmon (John) Gracie G. Torres, Mary Ann Garcia and Edward Garcia (Ann). Dominga was blessed to have 23 grandchildren, 63 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2020 at Corpus Christi Funeral Home, a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
Due to COVID limitations, the Rosary and Mass will be limited to immediate family only (50 people). A livestream of the Rosary will be available for friends and family to view from their home.
