Derek Paul Shindler, age 26, passed away at home in Corpus Christi, TX on Wednesday, August 07, 2019. He was born on July 30, 1993 in Corpus Christi, TX to Sieglinde Shindler.
Derek grew up in Corpus Christi and attended Flour Bluff High School. He was in his element and happiest when he was FISHING!! For Derek, “a bad day fishing was better than a good day of anything else.” Whether landing a redfish or sheepshead at Bob Hall Pier or hauling in a fish on one of the charter fishing boats he worked on out of Port Aransas, Derek was truly living his dream.
Derek was introduced to hunting and fishing by his Uncle Richard and they spent many hours together in the field. Derek was especially close to his Grandmother Margarete Shindler and they truly adored each other. They made several trips to Germany together to visit relatives and cherished the time they spent together.
Derek was a great guy and was a good friend to many people. From his childhood friends to the Captains he worked for, the deck hands he worked with, and the customers he wrangled fish for on fishing excursions, Derek formed bonds of friendship with many people. He was a wonderful son, nephew, and cousin and his untimely death is a painful loss to many who cherished his friendship and to his family who loved him.
Derek was preceded in death by his Grandmother Margarete Anna Hoffman Shindler, Grandfather Dorman Shindler, Great-grandmother Gertud Hoffmann and Great-grandfather Arnold Hoffmann. He is survived by his mother Sieglinde Shindler, his Granduncle Christof Hoffmann and Grandaunt Monika Hoffmann of Germany; Uncle Leslie Shindler, Uncle Dorman Truett Shindler & Aunt Marcia, Uncle Richard Shindler; cousins Kylie Shindler and Anya Shindler; and cousins Frank Hoffmann and Jörg Hoffmann.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM, Saturday, August 17, 2019 at the Seaside Reid Mausoleum Chapel.
