Cathy Ann Escobedo

January 1, 1993 ~ November 9, 2020 (age 27) 27 Years Old

Obituary

Cathy Ann Escobedo entered through heaven’s gate on November 9, 2020. She was 27 years old. Cathy was the first baby born in Corpus Christi, TX on New Year’s Day, January 1, 1993.
Cathy spent her time on earth, expanding on the gifts granted by God. She was an artist with a love of oil painting and sketching. Her vivid imagination and life experience dictated her subjects. She was able to depict moments with tenderness and emotion. She could capture one’s soul through her works of art.

Her monumental creativity lent itself to her favorite activity, planning spectacular holiday surprises for the love of her life, her 8-year-old son, Julian Soliz. She spent months planning Julian’s Christmas presents, professionally crafting each gift with handmade cards and labels. Julian’s over-sized Easter baskets were adorned with handmade bows and artful objects. She recently celebrated Halloween, dressing her son as Kakashi, Julian’s favorite anime character, cutting and styling a wig to look like the character.

She translated her artistic skills into playing keyboard in a band, collaborating on music throughout her teen years. Cathy had a lifelong love of music.

Cathy Ann found a special calling, teaching pre-school students. She marveled at her students’ inquisitive minds and dream of the professions they would enter because of the love of learning she helped foster. As Cathy Ann remarked to her family, “My dream is to open my own daycare center.” She had boundless love and faith in future generations of students.
Cathy Ann will be remembered for her infectious laugh and joyful smile. Her smile emanated from her soul. Those around her often found themselves joining into laughs and giggles. She took tremendous joy in surprising people around her with presents, putting their needs above her own. If she thought someone might need a present to lighten the day, she would assemble a gift of thoughtfully chosen surprises. Cathy adored extreme couponing which allowed her to indulge her favorite people with “Just Because” presents. Cathy Ann loved sharing time with loved ones watching television, movies and had a special fondness for watching anime with her son, Julian.

Cathy Ann recently began running and enjoyed special times exploring a family member’s ranch. She expressed childlike wonderment at the gloriousness of nature, the abundant wildlife and the sense of peace she found there.

Cathy Ann is survived by her son, Julian Rene Soliz, parents Henry and Hilda Escobedo, sisters, Jennifer (Rene) Gutierrez, Carolyn Escobedo, brothers, Richard (Carey) Escobedo, Henry Escobedo, Jr., nieces Marlynn Escobedo and Madalynn (Maddie) Garcia, Aaron Soliz, her son’s father and many aunts and uncles from Cd Del Carmen, Mexico, Arizona, Las Vegas, and Atlanta. Cathy adored her grandmother Jovita Herevia of Mexico. All who survive Cathy mourn her early departure from this world, but will carry out her legacy of kindness, compassion and love.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 16, 2020 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel with a funeral service to be held at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
