Obituary

Blanche Era Lewis, 100, passed away on November 18, 2021. She was born on May 29, 1921 to Will & Mae Ella Gooden. Her father was a farmer and her mother was a schoolteacher and pianist for their church.
Blanche graduated from Dunbar High School in Mexia, Texas. She attended Prairie View College and graduated from Del Mar College of School of Nursing. After Blanche retired from Southside Community Hospital, Blanche was a volunteer worker for Thomas-Spann Clinic and was a member of the City of Corpus Christi’s Retired Senior Volunteer Program for 33 years now known as AmeriCorps Seniors. She was a member of the Executive Committee for the local Chapter 6168 of the NAACP for several years. She was an active participant at the Oveal Williams Senior Center until her health failed.
She was a dedicated member of St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church for 69 years and a member of the adult choir, Mission Ministry, Sunday school and Medical Ministry. She was a loving mother who will always be remembered for her quiet nature, beautiful voice, smile and devotion to family, faith and to God. Blanche loved to travel and loved to have fun with family and friends, and enjoyed reading the Bible daily. She left a legacy of good qualities, hard work, dedication, honesty and displayed many Christ-like characteristics for her family to follow.
She is preceded in death by her parents, 4 sisters, 4 brothers and husband Melvin Lewis.
Blanche is survived by 2 daughters Ella Bea Lewis and Wanda Lewis McCoy, grandchildren Carol Sanders (Larry), Felton Dunn Sr. (Maria), Michael Dunn, Kevin Lewis Sr., Christine Lewis, Kim McCoy Lusk (David), Michelle McCoy Taylor (John Paul), great-grandchildren DeQuan Sanders, Brandon Luckey, Jennifer Lovejoy, Felton Dunn Jr., Jeremy Dunn, Sarah Mata (Robert), Chelsie and Courtney Dunn, Kevin Lewis Jr., Devin Lewis, Alviah, Daijah and Lailah Taylor, several Great-great grandchildren, a Special cousin Daryl Brown, and many other cousins.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, November 26, 2021at Corpus Christi Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at St. Matthew Baptist Church. Interment to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
Having the distinguished honor to serve, as pallbearers are Vernon Kuydendall, Antonio DelaGarza Sr., Norris Marshall, Tom Dailey Sr., Tommy Cage, Alex Gonzalez and Maurice Wilson, Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Michael Dunn, Kevin Lewis Sr., Arthur Sanderson and Phillip Salone.
