Benilde B. Luna

Benilde Delia Benavidez Luna, age 96, passed away November 19, 2021. She was born on July 12, 1925, in Encinal, La Salle, Texas to Regulo Benavidez and Ofelia Guerra. Benilde was a long-time member of the Corpus Christi Cathedral parish. Active ministries included ushering, VIP, St. Ann’s Altar and Rosary Society and money counter. She also cooked breakfast for many years to help raise money for the church. She was very creative and would try various crafts including painting and ceramics. She loved to sew and would use every piece of fabric, even if it were to stitch piece together to make a quilt. On August 3, 1947, she married her husband, Leopoldo Luna.

Benilde is preceded in death by her husband, Leopoldo Luna, son, Richard Albert Luna, sisters, Genoveva Benavidez, Alicia Lopez, Alejandra Benavidez and brother, Gustavo Benavidez.

Benilde is survived by her children, Robert Lee Luna, of San Antonio, Texas, Rose Mary (Severiano) Cruz, of Corpus Christi, Texas, Theresa Ann Luna of Arlington, Texas, Richard Benedict (Ruth) Luna, of Corpus Christi, Texas, her faithful Chihuahua companion, JJ, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, November 22, 2021 with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. that same evening at Corpus Christi Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Corpus Christi Cathedral. Interment to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
