Ascenciona Vitela

Our beloved Ascensiona Vitela of Odem, Texas, was called home to our Heavenly Father on July 31, 2022 at the age of 84. She was born on May 26, 1938 in Lockhart, Texas to Eusebia and Emeterio Juarez. Ascenciona is preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers, 2 sisters and her beloved daughter Maria De La Paz Galvan.

Chona, as she was lovingly referred to by her family and friends, was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Family was everything to her. Her pride and joy were her children and grandchildren. She loved spending time with them and cherished every moment to the fullest. Along with her childfren Chona had many nieces and nephews whom she adored and enjoyed their company. Chona also had many friends. She never met a stranger and was quick to befriend anyone. She loved outings and going for car rides especially if she was going to visit relatives.

Mom enjoyed cooking especially for her children. She was quick to whip up a meal when she knew they were coming to visit. Mom also found great joy in beautifying her home and outdoor space with an array of assorted flowers and plants.

Mom was a devoted Catholic. She loved going to church and hearing the word of God. She was true to her faith and was a firm believer in the power of healing through prayer. She was always praying for her family, her friends, and anyone that was in need. Mom was very giving of her time. She was always ready to lend a helping hand.

Mom is survived by her children, Herminio (Sandra) Galvan of Corpus Christi, Texas and Richard (Regina) Galvan of Austin, Texas, grandchildren, Joshua Galvan, Gabrielle (Matthew) Spaw, Sebastian Galvan and Nadia Galvan all of Corpus Christi, Texas, Nicholas Galvan, Pete (Martha) Gonzales and Leanna Gonzales, great-grandchildren, Peter Noah Gonzales and Madalyn Rose Gonzales all of Austin, Texas. She is survived by one sister, numerous nieces, nephews and additional loving family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, August 12, 2022 at Corpus Christi Funeral Home with a Holy Rosary to be held at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Corpus Christi Funeral Home. Interment to follow at San Pedro Cemetery in Odem, Texas.

Having the distinguished honor to serve as pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews.

On behalf of the family, we extend a very special thank you to her caregiver, Gloria De Los Santos. We would also like to thank Zeneta, Victoria, Crystal and Chaplin Melissa from Gracie Home Care for their wonderful hospice services they provided to Mom during her last final months.
