Charles T. Curtis

Charles “Chuck” Thomas Curtis, 85,  went to be with our Heavenly Father on April 27, 2022 after a long illness in Navasota, Texas.  He was born on May 20, 1936 to William G. “Curly” Curtis and Della Mae Sanderson Curtis in Van Zandt County near Wills Point, Texas (who later divorced).  His father met and married Opal Adamich and they had two children, Muriel Dean Curtis (Horn) and Randall “Randy” Curtis.  The entire family moved to Corpus Christi.  

Charles’ brother Bobby joined the Navy in 1953 and Chuck decided to serve as well in 1954.  While stationed in Japan, Chuck worked on P5M seaplanes and made lasting memories of his service as a crewman flying reconnaissance missions in the Pacific during the Korean War era.  In 1955, Charles met and married Ann Coker (divorced in 1990) and had three sons:  Michael, Jon, and Keith in Corpus Christi.  In the early 1960’s, Charles worked as an officer and vice detective for the Corpus Christi Police Department, worked security at the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, and was a machinist at the Corpus Christi Army Depot (ARADMAC).  After the death of his step-mother, Opal, and the sudden death of his father “Curly”, Charles and his family moved to a small ranch near Mathis, Texas for his next adventure.   He tried his hand at cattle ranching to carry on a plan started with his father Curly.  Many cattle, rattlesnakes, and cowboy songs and stories later, the family returned to Corpus Christi in 1975.  Charles later lived near his brother Randy for many years until moving to College Station to be near his son Keith in 2013. 

Charles was preceded in death by his brother Bobby Curtis of Houston, Texas, and sister Muriel Horn of Yukon, Oklahoma.  He is survived by his brother Randy of Corpus Christi, Texas and wife Lajean, his three sons: Mike Curtis of Washington state, Jon Curtis of Washington state, and Keith Curtis of College Station, Texas and wife Melissa, son-in-law Thomas Duguay of Washington state, three grandchildren:  Kaitlyn and Matthew Curtis of College Station, Texas, Neal Thomas Curtis-Duguay of Washington state, as well as his nephews:  Bill Curtis of Austin, Texas, Barry Curtis, Glenn Curtis, and Brian Curtis and families of Houston, Texas, Roy Randall Horn of Oklahoma, Bill Curtis and family of Corpus Christi and nieces: Rachel Colleen Woods of Waco, Texas, Andrea Trinkline of Colorado and Rhonda Horn of Missouri, also many loved great nieces and nephews.

The visitation and funeral services are entrusted to Corpus Christi Funeral Home.  Flowers can be sent to the Seaside Memorial Park address (shown below).  On Monday, May 2, there will be a visitation at Seaside Memorial Park in the Reid Chapel from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., an informal ceremony from 12:00 - 12:30 p.m., with a graveside service at 1:00 p.m.
