Howard Thomas Grunwald was born October 14, 1932 to Rudolph A. and Hertha Grunwald in Weimer, Texas. Howard graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1950. He attended A&M Class of 1954 before joining the United States Navy where he served aboard the USS Cassin Young (DD793). He enjoyed his Navy life and became life-long friends with several of his shipmates. After his time in the service, he returned to Corpus Christi where he joined his father Mr. Rudy and Brother Clifton in the family business of Grunwald Printing.
In 1956 Howard married Joyce Lavone Floyd and they started their adventure in life sharing it with their sons Robert, Richard, Ronny and Rudy. After the passing of his wife, Howard married Delphene Ann Berry and they were deeply involved in Al Amin Shrine as he served as Potentate in 1988.
Howard enjoyed boxing in his younger days, fishing, barbequing, traveling and cruises with a little of gambling on the side. He was a fantastic entertainer.
Howard spent the majority of life as an active and dedicated member of Free Masonry (Oso Naval Lodge #1282, Al Amin Shrine (Past Potentate of 1988 and a lifetime member of Directors Staff) and ROJ CC Crt. #176.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Rudy and Hertha; wife, Joyce and wife Delphene; brother Clifton; sister-in-law, Jean; and son, Robert. Howard is survived by sons, Richard, Ronny (Kim) and Rudy; daughter, Linda Clary-Joia (Bobby); nephews, John, Karl, Fred; niece, Mary Whaley (Don); grandchildren Ron, Shane, Ricky, Ingrid, Blake, Travis, Ashley, Misti, Gary, Bethany and Corey; several great grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be held at Seaside funeral home, 4357 Ocean Drive, Corpus Christi, Texas. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2017 from 6:00 pm – 9:00, services will be held on Monday at 12:00 pm (noon).
